I'm taking a real beating with PPC, are there any other ways to Purchase Traffic?

When I began Pay Per Click was the only way I knew to get an ON THE SPOT traffic pop. The expensive fees concerned me of course, but my options were few. I was at a loss and knew no other way that was as successful for directing quick people to any website I desired, when I desired.
